Was does "in training under supervision" mean?

By Austrian law every psychotherapist is obliged to carry the status “in training under supervision” (German: “in Ausbildung unter Supervision”, short: i.A.u.S.) for a certain amount of time.

The psychotherapist i.A.u.S. is, after an intensive education and by fulfilling certain criteria, allowed and qualified to work independently as a psychotherapist in private practice while continuously being under supervision. This supervision takes place with specifically qualified psychotherapists and ensures a high-quality standard of work, which is why many psychotherapists continue supervision long after the obligatory period of time.

Furthermore, in Austria, the insurance system does not refund any of the costs for psychotherapists i.A.u.S., therefore reduced rates are offered.
